Terms of Service

What Athar is — and is not

Athar stores messages, recordings and files you create, and delivers them to people you choose after a multi-step verification of your death. Athar is not a legal will and does not create legally binding testamentary documents. Inheritance of property is governed by the laws of your country; consult a qualified professional for a legal will.

Your account and your duty of accuracy

  • You must provide accurate contact details for yourself, your recipients and your guardians — delivery depends on them.
  • You are responsible for keeping your password and 2FA device safe.
  • You may only store content you have the right to store. No unlawful content.

How verification and delivery work

Delivery is triggered only by the process described in the product: missed check-ins, escalating reminders, independent confirmation by all of your guardians, and a final hold — any sign-in by you cancels the process at any stage. You understand that this process depends on emails reaching you, your guardians and your recipients, and that you are responsible for keeping those addresses current. On the free plan, nothing is ever sent to recipients; release links are emailed to your own address only.

Honest limits of the service

We work hard to make delivery reliable, but we cannot guarantee that any email will be received, read, or acted upon. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Athar's liability is limited to the fees you paid in the twelve months before a claim. The service is provided "as is".

The beta and your free year

Athar is in beta until 31 December 2026. Every account created before the end of that day receives Athar Premium free for one year from its sign-up date. We will email you before your free year ends, and you will never be charged unless you choose to subscribe.

Payments

Premium is a yearly subscription handled by Stripe. You can cancel anytime; your plan stays active until the end of the paid period, then your vault returns to practice mode (nothing is delivered to recipients, and we tell you so).

If Athar ever shuts down

Our founding promise: if the service ceases operating, every user receives at least 90 days' notice and a one-click export of everything stored.
